Sunflower seeds

Sunflowers are native to America and left their homeland for the first time by Spanish sailors after the discovery of America. In Europe they were initially used as an ornamental plant, but over time their culinary value was recognized and today they are mainly used as bakery seeds. With a proportion of unsaturated fatty acids of over 90 percent and other valuable ingredients, sunflower seeds are exceptionally healthy. The sunflower oil is suitable for medical and pharmaceutical purposes as well as for biodiesel and is one of the most consumed edible oils.
