Pumpkin seeds

Pumpkins are native to the American continents and were already used as food by the Aztecs and Mayans. Following the discovery of America, the plants found their way to Spain and then to all over the world. The kernels contain a large amount of protein, healthy fats, iron, zinc and much more. Coupled with its delicious, spicy taste, the result is a food that is particularly popular in salads, mueslis and, last but not least, as a baking ingredient. Skinless pumpkin seeds are required for the production of baked goods, and (at least some varieties) already grow in this form, so that a complex production step is not necessary. In addition, a greenish, mildly nutty-tasting oil can be obtained from the kernels.
